Property care in St Ives, done quietly and properly.

A town with a chapel on its bridge understands that buildings deserve looking after. From the riverside cottages and Monday market town centre to the newer homes towards the guided busway, we bring the same standard to every front door: insured work, fixed written prices, and straight answers.

The town itself

You cannot arrive here without noticing

Coming into St Ives over the bridge never quite gets old. There is a chapel built into the middle of it, one of only a handful left in the country, and then the quay opens out on your left with the old warehouses behind. Cromwell stands on Market Hill looking faintly disapproving of everyone. On a Monday the market is still there.

It is a lovely place to own a house and an interesting one to look after. The river gives the town its character and, if we are honest, most of its damp. A good deal of what we work on here was built long before anyone thought seriously about ventilation, and the water table has never gone anywhere.

Which means the answer here is more often lime, air and drainage than sealant and a dehumidifier. We would rather explain why than sell you the quick version.

Riverside and the old centre

Timber, lime and a water table that is never far away. The answer is rarely a sealant gun and usually ventilation, drainage and breathable materials. We would rather tell you that than sell you a quick fix that traps the problem inside the wall.

The Victorian terraces

Handsome, well built, and full of rooms nobody has reconsidered since the seventies. This is Room Refresh territory: one room, every trade it needs, and a house that suddenly works again without anybody moving out.

The estates out towards Houghton

Family homes at the age where gardens have got away from people, fences are on their second decade, and the loft is full because there is nowhere else. Ordinary work, done properly, on a rhythm rather than in a panic.

What we do in St Ives

One service, at whatever size the house needs

It is really one service, offered at whatever size the house needs. A single sticking door is the small version. A room taken from tired to finished is the usual one, and we call that the Room Refresh. A whole property between tenants is the large one. Most of what we are asked to do in St Ives is one of those three, arrived at for one of six familiar reasons.

Underneath all of it the work is the same: preparation, the trades in the right order, and the finishing nobody else wants to do. These are the parts of it people usually ask about, and a guide to our prices covers almost all of them.

Why local matters

Close enough to notice

Homes near water work harder than most: damp air, seasonal movement, weather off the meadows. Regular, local attention catches what an annual panic never does. We are a short hop along the Ouse, with no call-out fees, because there is nothing to call out from.

In St Ives and need a hand?

Send us your list with a photo or two. If it is small and straightforward we can usually price it from that. For anything bigger we come and look first, walk round it with you, and then put a fixed price in writing.
